Startups are changing the economic ecosystem by competing with large, medium-sized, and small businesses and pioneering new markets with innovative ideas and challenging spirit. However, not all startups have "flower paths." According to the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the survival rate of startups in the fifth year of domestic startups as of 2020 was only 29.2%.

Start-ups in their third to fifth years of business are struggling to overcome Death Valley. Even if they have excellent ideas, great teams, and capital, they may experience unexpected difficulties such as incorrect speed control due to growth and surrounding conditions or close their doors.

Accordingly, the Incheon Creative Economy Innovation Center (Director Lee Han-seop) is Incheon's No. 1 accelerator, revitalizing the start-up and investment ecosystem in the Incheon area.

The Incheon Changgyeong Center accelerates the innovative growth process of startups through direct investment by early companies, R&D support through TIPS support, investment through venture capital (VC), investment projects using Big Wave corporate briefing (IR), and global expansion projects.

The Incheon Changgyeong Center is the official operating institution of the "Incheon Big Wave Mo Fund," which was created by Incheon City as the first and largest local government.

The Incheon Big Wave Mo Fund is in its third year of operation this year with the aim of creating a fund worth a total of 600 billion won by investing 60 billion won for four years from 2021. The Incheon Changgyeong Center has so far invested 22.5 billion won in 21 funds formed by investment companies to create a total of 611.3 billion won. It has exceeded the original target of 600 billion won.

In particular, it launched the "Big Wave Investment Promotion IR Project" with Incheon City in 2021, with a total of 59 companies and a total of 1,200 investment partners online and offline participating so far this year, and has achieved more than 130 billion won in investment attraction. A total of 400 companies applied to recruit participating companies this year, recording the highest competition rate ever, 22:1.

In addition, all four investment and recommendation companies of the Incheon Changgyeong Center were selected for the tips program of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups this year.

In addition, the Incheon Changgyeong Center plans to discover 100 young start-ups and foster them as global CEOs with 10 billion won in business expenses from the Incheon Metropolitan Government from this year to 2026 in order to advance into the global market. This year, 10 start-ups were selected, the first year of the project, and two of the three companies decided to set up overseas subsidiaries in the U.S. and Vietnam. The other one has an export contract with Saudi Arabia.

Lee Han-seop, head of the center, said, "As a result of the Incheon Big Wave Fund investment project with active support from Incheon City, we were able to expand the interest of investors focused on Seoul and Gyeonggi to Incheon."

◇V to V

People arrive anywhere in the metropolitan area in three hours by public transportation, but why can't the goods arrive so quickly? V2V (CEO Choi Sang-soo), which provides a courier service specializing in urban logistics, has solved this problem.

It is the service 'Today' using a network called a 'public transport network'. This is a transplant of the operation method of the 'public transportation network' into urban logistics, and it can be seen that the cargo version of the public transportation network was created in the metropolitan area. It moves goods like people traveling on a bus.

Today has small urban hubs throughout the metropolitan area, connects them multiple times to form a mesh network, and trucks move between urban hubs in their areas to handle urban logistics.

CEO Choi Sang-soo said, "Today's service has been launched in the Seoul metropolitan area this year and is being used by more than 300 companies," adding, "As we have succeeded in attracting investment for the fourth time this year, we will focus on achieving a break-even point (BEP) next year through a full-fledged scale-up."

◇ Astrogen

Woo Young-woo, a strange lawyer who aired last year, impressed viewers on the subject of autism spectrum disorder.

Astrogen (CEO Hwang Soo-kyung) is a company that develops treatments for incurable neurological diseases in many children. In addition to AST-001, which has autism spectrum disorder as an indication, it is researching and developing follow-up pipelines for new drugs such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), sleep apnea, ret syndrome, draves syndrome, and Parkinson's disease.

In order to generate domestic sales, the company is set to show early sales and operating profit by attracting investment from KOSDAQ-listed Korea Pharma, which has strengths in CNS R&D and sales, and granting consignment sales rights last month. Despite the market conditions in which investor sentiment for bio ventures is very difficult, Astrogen has achieved the result of attracting more than 10 billion won in investment originally planned.

CEO Hwang Soo-kyung said, "Astrogen will apply for product approval to launch the world's first treatment for autism spectrum disorder in Korea in the future."

◇AIT Tech

Eight Tech (CEO Park Tae-hyung), a company that provides waste resource circulation solutions, introduced the artificial intelligence (AI) robot 'Eightron' for waste screening.

Atron selects AI-designated wastes through image learning of more than 2.6 million cases. Atron consists of real-time object detection and data collection by the recognition department, real-time monitoring by the monitoring department, waste type and feature analysis by the analysis department, object selection and data filtering by the conversion department, and screening commands by the selection department. When selecting personnel, it is 30 to 40 per minute, while Atron selects up to 96 per minute.

In addition, it has high work efficiency by selecting a total of 45 types of household wastes based on color and material such as PET bottles, aluminum cans, and glass bottles. This lowers 864 kg of carbon per year and increases the real recycling rate of waste, contributing to the resource circulation economy.

CEO Park Tae-hyung said, "We will create a smart city where robots separate waste through technological progress and creativity."

◇Mobic Wrap

Mobik Lab (CEO Lee Won-geun) provides a service to diagnose equipment failures using sound signals in the ultrasonic band.

Most mechanical devices and facilities produce signals of abnormal symptoms such as noise, vibration and smell (oil leakage). Mobik Lab collects acoustic signals in the ultrasound band, which are sensitive signals among noise generated by facilities, analyzes data with artificial intelligence, and provides diagnosis and failure prediction services on the current facility condition. Ultrasound is an acoustic signal in a band that humans cannot hear.

It also provides a service that notifies you when an abnormality occurs in the facility, determines what causes the abnormality, and predicts the remaining life. Mobik Lab completed attracting 1.5 billion won in investment in this year's Free A round and secured empirical cases of various facilities through collaboration with companies in the secondary battery, display, and industrial solutions sectors.

CEO Lee Won-geun said, "In addition to the manufacturing market, we will spread to fire safety and defense to establish ultrasound diagnosis standards."

◇ Do Remi faction

Do Re Mi-pa (CEO Kim Ah-reum), a company that automates the appearance inspection of used phones, was selected for the TIPS program in August.

For the used phone market, DoRefa provides a glass surface detection system based on artificial intelligence (AI) machine vision (object recognition AI technology) technology to solve the problem of rating mismatch caused by relying on visual inspection during used phone inspection.

The goal of Doremipa is to automate the appearance inspection of used phones. To this end, we applied for a patent by developing a device and system to inspect fine scratches on used phones, and this tip selection is the result of recognizing the data detection capability using these devices.

"The research funds through Tipps selection will help solve labor-intensive problems and automate them that occurred during the inspection of used phones," said Kim Ah-reum, CEO of Doremifa. "We will lead the standardization of the domestic used phone inspection market and provide services that are used in the global market in the future."
